Why not start this blog with a personal note. Yes, the idea behind AutoTidbits is to focus on industry issues of the automotive industry. But the fun part about this industry is that it affects most of us in our personal lives as well.
Living in the American South, I am usually immune from the perils of winter; not so this year. This latest "winter weather event" left us with a thick layer of ice, topped with five inches of snow. While I am sure that snow tires are absolutely required in colder climates (and required by law in Germany) they don't make sense here. Neither does a rear-wheel drive sport sedan with 17" sport tires. As you can imagine, traction control can only do so much. On the upside, I learned my lesson. If you can't see the asphalt, keep the car parked and drive the SUV.
